Year 13 Leavers' Ceremony

On Friday evening we said a formal goodbye to our lovely Year 13 students in a ceremony at Horsley Lodge.

Following an introductory speech from Head of Sixth Form Mr Cowley, the Chair of Governors, Miss Lawson, presented the students with subject prizes, yearbooks and open references. In their capacity as Head Girl and Head Boy, Sally White and Ryan Cumiskey then made an excellent speech thanking staff and parents for their support and summarising highlights from the past two years. Ryan and Sally also made a special award to student James Taylor for his service to the sixth form, most notably his work with the Sixth Form Ultras football team which, along with their supporters, made a significant contribution to sixth form life and also helped to raise significant sums for charity.

The proceedings continued with a meal, at the end of which a number of student nominated awards were presented to both students and staff, the latter causing much debate between some of the winners and runners up!

The DJ cranked up the volume, tables were vacated for the dance floor and the whole place rocked until midnight (or just after actually, as the students managed to coax an encore from the DJ).

Tears were shed, hugs exchanged and promises made to keep in touch. The end of your school days is a big deal and hopefully both students and their parents came away from the event feeling that it was a suitable marker for the end of one era and the beginning of another.
