Achievement Tie

Dear parents / carers of Year 9, at the end of Year 9 we at Kirk Hallam Community Academy, award Achievement ties to the students who, in our opinion, have excelled during their time with us in Key Stage 3.

Students may wear their Achievement tie throughout Key Stage 4 in recognition of their achievement.

Nominations for an Achievement tie are made by the staff at Kirk Hallam; predominantly those who are Year 9 Form Tutors or teach Year 9 this year, but also teachers and non-teaching staff who have worked with the students throughout Key Stage 3.

We recognise that student’s blossom at different times and in different ways and that not every student will be acknowledged in this process.

It is not our intention to undervalue students who are not awarded an Achievement tie and we ask for your support in explaining this to your child. (Historically we award ties to approximately 20% of our Year 9 students - 45 to 50 students this year.)

The criteria for staff to nominate a student are, sustained;

  • Academic Work in KS3
  • Outstanding Effort in KS3
  • Participation in Extracurricular activities in KS3
  • Leadership in KS3
  • Other (an exceptional action)

The closing date for Year 9 Achievement Tie Nominations is Friday 23rd June.

Nominations will then be collated and the successful students will receive their Achievement tie during the Year 9 into Year 10 Achievement Assembly at the end of this term. These students will receive a letter to explain their nominations.

Thank you for your support in this exciting opportunity.

Mr. A. Smith

Deputy Headteacher
